Education and Its Institutions in Cordoba During the Umayyad Period (8th Century AD)

The 8th century AD was a transformative period for Cordoba under the Umayyad Caliphate, establishing the city as a preeminent center for learning and culture. This research investigates the city's educational framework, exploring its institutions, pedagogical practices, and the integration of religious and secular knowledge. The study examines the Great Mosque, libraries, and private study circles as pillars of Cordobas intellectual development, alongside key figures like Ibn Habib and Ziryab. Additionally, the paper analyzes the societal impacts of education, including its role in advancing social mobility, fostering scientific innovation, and influencing European intellectual traditions. By synthesizing contemporary and historical scholarship, this study underscores Cordobas enduring legacy in global education systems and presents new insights into its multifaceted contributions to knowledge.
