Leadership in healthcare has for a long time focused on the physicians and the management, without considering the input of the nurses and lab technicians. These are the people who are in the front line and have the technical knowledge that is needed in decision making thus affecting patient care and team cooperation. This paper focuses on the need to support nurses and lab technicians to undertake leadership positions, assesses the barriers such as lack of training opportunities and cultural expectations of the traditional hierarchy and identifies measures to facilitate their development. Through education, mentorship and structural changes, the healthcare systems can better harness the insights of these essential workers thus supporting innovation and adaptation in the sector.
