Abstract

In the field of dental healthcare, ensuring patient safety is of utmost importance, particularly regarding the prevention of cross-infection and effective sterilization practices. The close-contact nature of dental procedures increases the risk of infectious agent transmission, necessitating rigorous infection control protocols. This review examines the collaborative roles of various dental professionals—including dentists, dental assistants, operating room (OR) technicians, health educators, laboratory staff, and administrators—in establishing and maintaining high safety standards within dental practices. Each professional contributes uniquely to the development, implementation, and monitoring of infection control protocols, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with regulatory mandates.

Dentists serve as clinical leaders and advocates for infection control, setting guidelines and providing continuous education while fostering patient trust through transparent communication. Dental assistants, as frontline practitioners, implement infection prevention strategies and engage with patients to promote understanding of safety measures. OR technicians ensure a sterile environment during surgical procedures, playing a critical role in preventing infections through meticulous preparation and collaboration with the dental team. Health educators enhance staff knowledge and community awareness of infection control practices through ongoing training and educational initiatives.
